Hiding Costs

Will be interesting to see where all the vendors attempt to hide costs from the consumer this round. The $650-$850 iPhone5 is seen as only a $200-$400 phone by most consumers with the extra $450 "hidden" via amortization in a multi-year contract. Likewise those who purchased a $400 20GB Xbox360 needed around $300 extra of Xbox Live Gold membership to access multi-player over the console lifetime for around a $700 total console price for the Xbox. Compare this to the $500 launch price of a 20GB PS3 with no charge for multi-player. PS3 might have seemed like a more expensive option at purchase time, but in the long run, it was the less expensive 20GB option costing around $70/year total, and it included a BR player.
